Figure 9  Growth rate for persons in common-law couples is more rapid for older age groups, 2001 to 2006

Description

This chart shows the growth, between 2001 and 2006, in the number of persons aged 15 years and over living in common-law unions by five years age groups. It shows that the age group 15 to 19 years had the lowest growth in number of persons living in common-law unions (0.4%) and that the age group 35 to 39 years was the only age group to show a decrease in the number of persons living in common-law unions (-4.7%) between 2001 and 2006. The chart also shows that the highest growths were observed for age groups between 40 and 65 years. Here are the growth rates, between 2001 and 2006, of persons living in common-law unions: 15 to 19 years (0.4%), 20 to 24 years (3.3%), 25 to 29 years (15.4%), 30 to 34 years (7.1%), 35 to 39 years (-4.7%), 40 to 44 years (18.6%), 45 to 49 years (38.5%), 50 to 54 years (43.5%), 55 to 59 years (63.9%), 60 to 64 years (77.1%) and 65 years and over (54.9%).
